Our Journey #4
Inspired by Strong Women...
"I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say. I say if I'm beautiful. I say if I'm strong. You will not determine my story—I will."
Wild Warrior started as a simple idea… a new and exciting project into an industry that was new to us. Meeting Selina, our sustainability consultant, made us question our motives and understand our why. She helped us energise our aim for the business. Sustainability is the first goal… Sustainable fashion should be the norm, not the niche… But we want to do more, we want to support and inspire strong women.
But first, let's jump back a decade or so… in my early 20s I trained as an Occupational Therapist… I’ll not venture into this journey too much today other than to tell you one of the most valuable elements I took from my time:
We are all independent, unique, adaptable and versatile creatures. I believe that if we live with positivity, focus and balance, we can achieve anything. It is in your power to be whatever you choose, you have the potential, and only you can do it for you.
‘Empowered Women Empower women‘ - I found this image on Pinterest, but unfortunately could not find the artist to reference. If you know… let me know who to shout out!
As women.. We recognise that through our lives, our powerful nature is often overshadowed by others and other worldly elements. So showcasing the strength of women will always be at the heart of Wild Warrior… and just to be clear... In this epic age of both clarity and confusion... Our definition of ‘woman’ is whatever your definition of woman is, with absolute open mindedness. Women are our inspiration… as a mother to girls, as a sister, a daughter and a wife... Supporting and empowering women is close to us. To our friends, our sisters, our mothers, our daughters, our colleagues... that girl in the yoga class that looks so strong and calm, the woman on the train that always smiles, those we admire, those we aspire to be, those that we know well and those that we view from afar… We want Wild Warrior not only to support our boobs in our amazing bras, but to support one another in our daily lives, with positivity and no assumptions. I have always admired women… Growing up I spent a lot of time watching movies. The strength and determination of the lead characters was inspiring. The passion they showed and willingness to fight for what they believe in, even if they were up against the impossible… They adapted and did what they needed to do to keep on going. Granted… not all of these stories were ideal. However… The inspiration to be a strong, intelligent, independent, determined woman has been wonderful and positive! |
A few of my favourite leading ladies growing up…
Princess Leia / Star Wars - fiery & determined.
Ripley / Alien - Capable & bad-ass.
Sorsha / Willow - conflicted & rebellious.
Marion / Raiders of the Lost Ark - inventive, positive.
Alex / Flashdance - passionate, determined and focussed.
Baby / Dirty Dancing - rebellious & creative.
Sarah Connor / Terminator - tenacious & resourceful.
Leeloo / the Fifth Element - pretty much a superhero.
Dizzy / Starship Troopers - strong, determined.
Ellie / Jurassic Park - total geek, perceptive, brilliant.
Trinity / the Matrix - simply super cool...
Our mission is to inspire each other to embark on incredible journeys, to always feel strong enough to go on adventures and share our real world experiences… like a tag team, lets pass on experience to inspire and empower one another.
So what are we doing:
We have started our regular ‘ Strong Women - Real Women ’ feature.
We want to showcase incredible women who are out there living their passions, working hard for their beliefs and finding their own life balance. No matter the scale or the speed, we are always moving forward with positivity.
We believe that we can support and empower one another, through shared strength, respect and recognition. Without judgement or assumption, we want to listen and learn from each other.
Every woman has a story to tell, an experience to share, Real Women are the Strongest of Women… They are our inspiration. We hope this feature builds to be something truly inspiring and empowering… maybe one day, this will be the ultimate focus of Wild Warrior and we can support women more directly.
So far, we have featured Kerri, Jax & Selina… next up is Victoria in the next few weeks. We have met many incredible women along the Wild Warrior Journey and we know that we have so many more wonderful women to meet!
To wrap up this month's journal I have a shout out to my most inspiring woman… For me… I admire my Mum…
Mum is real and she is strong… for as long as I can remember she never bothered herself with dreaming, she always focused on what is real and right before us. Hard work is in her blood, she can't do anything but her absolute best, because she doesn't stop till it's complete… and I mean this in the most positive of ways. She has never been one for fables or tales of how things could be... She propels you forward with intention, goals and a genuine real life route of how to get there… There is always a plan.
She is a hands-on practical person and I believe she can do anything she turns her hand to. She cares deeply and gives the best hugs… she takes her tea black with ice cubes to ‘cool it down’, she loves to sing, great at a crossword, sometimes talks a bit too loud, she's got the smarts, likes a jam sandwich and she comes alive when she is in amongst nature…
She is a bad ass… and I think she is amazing!
1.Me and mum. 2. This is mum with her bestie… Alice is another inspiration.. Plain talking, straight to the point badass.. One of the strongest and most rock solid independent women I have met.
My personal goal… I truly hope that I can pass on some wisdom, real world experience and a lot of fun times to my own daughters… and my son! All of whom are an incredible inspiration to me every day.
